Accident information

How Geoff could have had an accident like this continues to be a mystery. As many of you know, Geoff was an extremely careful and experienced pilot. The crash is still being investigated by the NTSB as part of their normal investigation protocol as we understand it. The preliminary NTSB report (pdf) provides the basic outline of what happened. What it doesn't say is that Geoff had stopped off in Santa Fe to go to the opera after his stay at Oshkosh. He stayed a night in Salida, Colorado and was heading home. You can get a better sense of where it happened on this sectional or google maps view. For those who have never been to Salida, Colorado, all reports suggest that it is absolutely beautiful.
